The critics' chart showing entries in their top 100 albums of all time by decade is nearly the reverse of the sales chart.
- The golden era of 60s and 70s has the most entries, accounting for over half the total.
- There is a downward trend since then - forestalled by a minor resurgence in the 90s.
The album as an art form might not be dead, but it is not in the most robust of health either.
